Risks during Water Activities

Some water activities are more dangerous than others. It mostly depends on how long a person stays in the water and whether he or she creates vibrations that are interesting for sharks or attracts them by other stimuli.

Listed below are the water activities and for the year 2019 in percent the number of shark accidents during these activities:

  1. Surfing and board sports: 61 %

  2. Swimming and wading: 26 %

  3. Snorkeling and free-diving: 4 %

  4. Body surfing and horseplay: 5 %

  5. Scuba diving: 4 %
