Appearance
Very slender body and tail. Snout narrowly rounded anteriorly. Both dorsal fins equal-sized, round and smaller than pelvic fins. Origin of first dorsal fin over insertion (end) of pelvic fin. Anal fin ends right in front of caudal fin.
Coloration
Numerous dark brown or blackish spots or dashes on light brown body.
Distribution
Indo-Western Pacific: Arabian Sea to India, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Philippines, Solomon Islands.
Biology
Common, but little-known species of inshore water.
Diet
Feeds probably on invertebrates.
Size
Maximum size about 65 cm.
Reproduction
Egg laying (oviparous).
Similar Species
Other bamboosharks have a similar appearance but the coloration of this species is distinctive.
