The latest update of the IUCN Red List has been integrated into the Shark Database. It contains 545 shark species.
Compared to version 2022-2, there were no major changes. The update contains 1 possibly extinct species, 219 endangered species of sharks and for 73 species there is insufficient data (Data Deficient) available for an assessment.
The annual scientific conference of the European Elasmobranch Association 2023 will be held in Brighton, UK, from 18-20th October 2023.

Compared to version 2021-2, there were no major changes. The update contains 1 possibly extinct species, 218 endangered species of sharks and for 73 species there is insufficient data (Data Deficient) available for an assessment.
Panama City, November 25, 2022: At its 19th conference, CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) decided to protect 60 internationally traded and endangered shark species. They will be listed in Appendix II of the convention. The trade of 54 species of requiem sharks and 6 species of hammerhead sharks will not be permitted unless the trade does not endanger the stocks of these animals.
