Shark Database update to Red List data v. 2024-1
The latest update of the IUCN Red List has been integrated into the Shark Database. It contains 545 shark species and some taxonomic changes:
- New species: Ridged-egg Catshark Apristurus ovicorrugatus.
- 3 new families in the order of ground sharks: Dichichthyidae (bristle sharks), Pentanchidae (deepwater catsharks) and Atelomycteridae (colored catsharks).
- Reclassification of existing species in the shark database to bristle sharks (4 species), deepwater catsharks (approx. 110 species) and colored catsharks (13 species).
- 22 species were re-evaluated by the IUCN in 2024.
