Red List

Shark Database update to Red List data v. 2024-1

The latest update of the IUCN Red List has been integrated into the Shark Database. It contains 545 shark species and some taxonomic changes:

  1. New species: Ridged-egg Catshark Apristurus ovicorrugatus.
  2. 3 new families in the order of ground sharks: Dichichthyidae (bristle sharks), Pentanchidae (deepwater catsharks) and Atelomycteridae (colored catsharks).
  3. Reclassification of existing species in the shark database to bristle sharks (4 species), deepwater catsharks (approx. 110 species) and colored catsharks (13 species).
  4. 22 species were re-evaluated by the IUCN in 2024.
